Chess FAQ
Question: Which class is the entry-level?
Answer: Level ZERO is designed for kids with no experience in chess.
Question: If my kid has learned chess before, which level should he sign up for?
Answer: We provide placement tests at www.tongyantang.org/chess which will help you to determine the right level for your kid.
Question: My kid took the chess class at TongYan school before, should he stay at the same level or go to the next level? Would he learn the same materials again if he stays?
Answer: You should always use the placement tests to choose classes. A student may stay in the same level for a few semesters or skip one level if his skill improves a lot. Except for level 0, the materials/examples the teacher uses for other classes will not repeat in very long time even though the concepts will be emphasized repeatedly.
Question: What should I do if level 3 is still too easy for my kid?
Answer: We plan to have a couple of rating groups in level 3 classes if we have more kids in the future.
