About this Course

Bollywood Dance Class (Ages 4 - 7)

Spring 2019 Dates: Saturdays March 2nd to May 11th (No Class April 20th).

Demo Session: Saturday Feb.9th. 2019 11AM - 12PM.


Curriculum - What you will learn from this course

Bollywood Dance


  • Basics of Bollywood Dance: Focus on learning the 8 count beat, musical cues, "BollyHop" and hand gestures

  • Building Strength & Flexibility: Focus on improving body control and building muscle memory

  • Fostering teamwork: Focus will be on coordination with others, listening and respecting their dance teammates

  • Cultural Exploration: Introduction to Bollywood Dance and Indian culture

  • Teaching one Choreographed sequence: Prepare the students to be able to perform a 3 minute choreographed sequence.

Additionally, practice videos will be uploaded to a secure password site every two weeks to allow students to practice and parents to be aware of the progress in the class. All students are offered the an opportunity to perform at our Spring Recital on May.18th, 2019 (Costume charges extra).

Shehnaaz Dance Academy(SDAJC)

Founded in 2012 by Shehnaaz Jagasia, Shehnaaz Dance Academy(SDAJC) is a Jersey City based Bollywood Dance Academy conducting Bollywood, folk, and fusion dances.
Shehnaaz is a trained dancer in Classical Dance form of Bharatnatyam and has learnt other dance forms (like Jazz, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha) from the Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts.
Fully insured, Shehnaaz Dance Academy is currently part of the Enrichment Programs at various Jersey City Public and Private Schools. Additionally, we conduct classes at Performing Arts Workshop and the Boys & Girls Club in Jersey City as well as private lessons. SDAJC is an active part of the Jersey City community hosting free classes at the library and the York Street Project.
Our current class offerings focus on different age groups:
● Toddlers - Move n Groove classes focus on improving coordination, learning beats, and listening to musical cues
● Bollywood Dance for Ages 4 - 7 - the classes focus on improving focus, coordination, balance and learning choreography
● Indian Fusion Dance for Ages 8+ - the classes focus on agility, coordination, teamwork, and learning complex choreography
● Adults​- BollyHIIT Dance Workout Series
